Real-time drawing

Phone and smoke - 13feb08

Have at last been getting back into real-time drawing – the example here is a guy standing across the road from one of my regular cafe-haunts here in Colchester. The aim is to get the essence of the pose and person in what is literally a matter of seconds – no more than a couple of minutes at most.

What stood out here were the squared-off glasses, the suit with the over-tailored jacket contrasted with the crumpled trousers, and the pose with cigarette in one hand and phone in the other. I’d guessed he was a real-estate agent on his break – a suspicion redoubled when his colleagues turned up to join him a couple of minutes later.
