A brief discussion on solution-architectures in TOGAF:

  • kvistgaard: Both TOGAF & DoDAF support the concept of EA v Solution Arc. but insist that SA is not part of EA. Why should the higher level be exclusive?
  • tetradian: @kvistgaard SA #solnarch should be specific to a single context and need; EA #entarch should (in principle) bridge across all contexts // also EA not so much ‘exclusive’ as at different level of abstraction: see role of EA in TOGAF ph.A-D,H vs EA+SA in ph.E-G
  • blomr: Typical levels of EA-involvement in projects: 1)no arch 2)pre-project principle check 3)as 2 + design reviews 4)PSA + architect in project
  • kvistgaard: @tetradian Exactly,so it is a part of it or of a “sequencing plan” which should b part of EA. If EA is not holistic then what is EA part of?
  • tetradian: @kvistgaard main point is probly that they’re parallel activities by different people with different skillsets – eg. EAs don’t (much) code
  • kvistgaard: @tetradian Yeah, most of the ADM is fine on that. It’s just that when trying 2 combine TOGAF w/ DoDAF would help if EA is def. as allinclus
  • tetradian: @kvistgaard yup, that’s the problem w TOGAF: is not-inclusive, doesn’t work outside of ‘IT/business align’. Ask @JohnPolgreen re DoDAF/TOGAF

  • rettema: Reading Komatsu about mimic words in Japanese language – inter-sensory nature is an essential to mimic words. // Komatsu – A very functional usage of mimic words is expression of our visceral senses not by specialists but by ordinary Japanese. // Okubyosa (Cowardliness) -> Odo-Odo:Nervous -> Moji-Moji: Fidgeting // When the sign of mimic words works in communication, it can not fix the meaning to be expressed. // Using MIMIC words (1), we avoid expressing clear meanings that cause a sharp contrast of values // Using MIMIC words (2), we describe an event in which the subject and the object are inclusive. // Semiotic Process of and Mimic Words in the Communication, great reading of Komatsu
